The literature on cardinals examined in this article (writings on conclaves, biographies, funeral orations and relations, as well as descriptions of funeral apparati) demonstrate an ostentatious prevalence of the “purple” on the “blood”, of the ecclesiastical nobility on the honour of the lineage, of the genealogy of the Church on that of the family trees. Such prevalence was of course rhetoric within a system that made the kinship relationships as its strength and had a noble social block behind itself. L’ascesa economica del ramo della famiglia Notarbartolo che conseguirà il titolo di duchi di Villarosa si caratterizza per la rapidità e l’incisività d’azione del capostipite: Francesco Notarbartolo Alvarez d’Eván. Muovendosi con abilità nel quadro del sistema economico siciliano della seconda metà del Seicento, Francesco riuscì in breve tempo a costruire il nucleo del patrimonio fondiario della famiglia: nel volgere di un ventennio, tra gli anni ’70 e gli anni ’90 del XVII secolo, creò un patrimonio di feudi compatto e geograficamente ben definito, che si estendeva tra Castrogiovanni e Santa Caterina. This article studies the role of the nobility in the XV century military expansion of the Crown of Aragon, through the particular case of the valencian nobility and the Alphonse V the Magnanimous's war cycle betwen the years 1420 and 1448. If s first analyzed the development of the royal campaigns. Then, the Valencian lineages are identified, also precising their particular degree of involvement in the royal wars. The second half of the 17th century history of the Great Duchy of Lithuania was dominated by the hegemony of two families: the Pac family and the Sapieha family. The latter managed to seize control over all spheres of public life and made decisions regarding the attitude of Lithuania with regard to the king and the Republic of Poland. Questo contributo si propone di indagare il rapporto tra cultura e politica nelle Rane di Aristofane attraverso una delineazione delle nozioni di responsabilità e merito nella figura del poeta tragico au-spicata da Aristofane. Dall’appartenenza del poeta alle Muse, che si configura nella sua partecipa-zione ai loro Misteri, discende una sua responsabilità ‘genetica’: il poeta utile alla polis è infatti fer-tile (γόνιμος), ovvero, è in grado di fecondare il teatro, e quindi la città, di valori che, ispirandosi agli insegnamenti del passato, educhino i cittadini. In seventeenth-century Sicily, worship, and the devotion that the noble and aristocratic classes in particular felt for the island’s main sanctuaries and the images that were venerated in them, stimulated the production of the decorative arts. Spanish viceroys and vicereines, and noblemen and women, commissioned many objects in order to offer them to the most important Sicilian sanctuaries as a sign of profound devotion and political power.
